CUSCO – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – CUSCO You will departure from Cusco at 4:00am, where we will travel to Pitumarca by private transportation. This journey will take around 3 hours. Travelling down remote roads alongside the Vilcanota River, you will pass through small canyons until Quechunuño, where you will stop for breakfast. Following breakfast we will begin a walk of around 8km to reach the highest point. It is possible to hire a donkey at any point on this trek. During this picturesque hike you will see snowy peaks, beautiful mountains and packs of indigenous animals. After 3 hours of walking, you will then reach the awe-inspiring Rainbow Mountain peak with its panoramic views of the valleys. Here your guide will be able to answer any questions you may have. You will have the opportunity to take photos and relax before beginning the 2-hour descent. On arrival back to Quechunuño, there will be time for a hearty lunch before making the journey back to Cusco, for arrival around 7pm.

Rainbow Mountain Hike

The Rainbow Mountain, or Cerro Colorado, is a stunning and unique formation of mountains in Cordillera Vilcanota. The highest being Ausangate, which stands at an impressive 6,372m. Located south of Cusco, these impressive peaks surround glaciers, lakes and traditional Peruvian villages. These colourful mountains are guaranteed to be some of the most beautiful natural wonders you will see in Peru. This one-day tour will take you off the beaten track and through several high passes of around 5000m. During this trek breathtaking and idyllic scenery, as well as herds of Alpacas and Llamas will surround you. Rainbow Mountain has become one of the most popular treks in Peru and it is not difficult to see why. Despite this hike being quite difficult due to the altitude, this trip is available to everyone. Those who do not wish to hike can opt to travel by donkey to the peak of the mountains. Weather can change dramatically in this region so it is important to be prepared.
