You will be collected from your accommodation in Cusco approximately 2 hours before the departure of your train and travel to the station in the town of Ollantaytambo. Aboard the train you will enjoy a glass roof to watch the stunning scenery fly by and we travel alongside the Urubamba River. Hot beverages and snacks will be provided during this journey. Once your arrive to Aguas Calientes, your guide will be there to take you to meet the buses for your journey through the tropical forest to Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you on a 2/3 hour tour of this breathtaking ancient citadel. You will wonder through the remains of the main plaza, the Intihuatana sundial, the Temple of the Sun, The Temple of the Three Windows and many more wondrous sites. It will be difficult not to marvel at the incredible ingenuity of the engineering under the Inca Rule. To imagine building such structures and even canals without any tool is something quite special. The surrounding views aren’t bad also! Following this tour you have free time to relax and take in the distinctive spirit that is around. You also have to time hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, which both overlook the ancient site (*Please note these tickets need to be booked in advance). These hikes are of moderate difficulty and will take around 3 hours return to climb. Your rewards at the end: the stunning views. Another option, and one that requires less climbing is a short trek to the Sun Gate. This is the original entrance to Machu Picchu from the famous Inca Trail. Again, this takes about 2 hours round trip. You and your guide will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch at one of our various restaurants. Around 6:30pm you will travel back by Vista Dome train to Ollantaytambo. At the station you will be met by your driver to return to Cusco.
