HUMANTAY LAKE TOUR You will be collected from your accommodation around 3am and travel for around 2.5 hours to the breakfast spot, in the village of Mollepata. This village is located in the valley of the Apurimac River. These green surroundings will begin to open your eyes and lungs as we begin to climb higher into the mountains. A short journey following breakfast to Soraypamapa is where we will begin our trek. You will walk along the ‘Camino Real’ with very picturesque views. Continuing until we reach a small village we will ascend around 1,300 feet in only 2 miles. This usually takes around and 1.5 hours. Once you have conquered the final (and steep) hill you will be able to gaze upon the turquoise lake, encircled by an imposing glacier and sharp peeks. For the majority of this hike, the Salkantay Peak will be looming over you. The energy from this mountain is something quite unique and special. Standing at over 20,600ft this snowy mountain is one of the most sacred and celebrated in Peru. Next to it is the Humantay Peak that sits lower at 19,420ft. Local/native people and Shamans regularly give offerings at the lake for these mountains. For them, this is in order to receive blessings from the mountains and Mother Earth. Upon arriving to the lake, you have time to relax and take photos. In the warmers months even the brave can swim in its crystal clear water. Your guide will give some history and show you how some basic rituals are performed. When you are ready to hike back to Soraypampa, we will do this at a better pace, we will reach the lunch spot at the end. You will enjoy a hearty meal while gazing at the surrounding glaziers. You will then be transported back to Cusco for around 5pm.
